LIGHT PLANNING

How we experience a place is highly determined by the light.  Light has an influence on our energy, mood and even health. The right light plan is essential. Sanne Lighting Design delivers creative solutions, expertise and attention to sustainability and innovation. A light plan is the design of a space with light points (power points) and fixtures (lamps). The created light image determines the atmosphere and dynamics of a room or outdoor space.

CREATIVITY

Sanne lighting Design distinguishes itself by the unique vision on light. The creativity lays in the simplicity of our approach, since the aim is to create a pleasant natural light. This varies in the offer of products within the plan as for the light plan itself. Our aim for the general lighting, is to create an ambiance while trying to minimize the amount of light points.

CUSTOMIZATION

The art lays in translating the ideas and needs of the user into a feasible plan. The first step is to make a “spotplan” in which we indicate schematically where we want to have light. We then look at the placement of the luminaire. Based on this information we determine what type of luminaire will be used. Depending on the space and activities we may look for warm dimmed lighting, a functional setting with good visibility or maybe a combination of the two. If needed we can advise you on the lighting control. Do we want to dim the light or are we maybe integrating the lighting into a smart home system or use motion sensors etc.

Aesthetics comes before technology. The final result is our priority, technology is the vehicle to realize this. With our knowledge of luminaire design, we can propose custom design solutions when needed.

EXPERTISE

With years of experience and projects that vary from private home to offices, museums and amusement parks Sanne lighting Design offers a wide range of expertise. The eye for detail in combination with the view on the whole picture offers a whole new spectrum to the design of the light plans. As we offer both our products and the design of light plans.

Why work with an in depended lighting designer? One way or another you will always pay for an advice. The difference is that we will search for the best solution for your project and will not be constrained by a limited number of manufacturers/brands.

GETTING STARTED

We start by listening to your needs and ideas. We analyze the possibilities and obstacles and gather all the needed information and documentation.

To what extent you would like to have the design detailed and the level of support will be discussed during this introduction. The final design fee will be determined after the first meeting and specified in a proposal that is communicated to you and approved by before kicking off with the concept design.

Phase I – Concept design

When there is a clear picture of the clients wishes and ideas, we hit back to our drawing table. We start with a “spotplan” indicating where we need to have light and determine what type of luminaire will be used. The ideas are translated to a schematic plan. This means that the placement of the light will be indicated and a luminaire will be designated to each type of lighting.

This will then be presented to the client. In consultation with the customer, we work towards a final design.

This phase will conclude with a presentation including;

  • Schematic layout
  • Proposal for the light fixtures
  • Defining the budget for the lighting fixtures

                    Concept design

Phase II – Design Development

When final, we start detailing the design. Depending on the level of detailing required we produce the technical drawings with measurements, gather the lighting specifications with pricing and provide all the technical information needed for the contractor or other third parties.

This phase will be concluded with the following documents;

  • Detailed layout drawings and sections
  • Specification of fixtures
  • Advice on lighting control system
  • Quotation for the lighting equipment

                  Technical drawing

Additional options

Depending on the type of projects we can advise on the application of the NEN standards and provide the required calculations and 3D simulations. This especially applies to commercial projects.

When needed we make a one on one scale mockup where we test the light. This is the case when we want to test the light in combination with a material such as a back lit glas wall.

We also offer the possibility to supply the lighting equipment and do construction supervision.

When do we start making a light plan? The earlier the better! Incorporate the light plan into the design process early in the design development.
